Oreimo Comes to an End

Yohello! As a few of  you know, Ore no Imouto ended this past week (August 18th). I personally am very sad for this show to end here. I really was hoping to get one more season following Episode 16’s events. I am a sucker for the “after” anime you really never get. I think that is why Amagami went well for me, you saw a brief glimpse into their future. Getting back on point the final three episodes will give you hints to the end all the way through, however it also comes along the line of crushing at the same time. So lets go over the good, the bad, and the final thoughts.

*Semi-Spoilers, I will do my best not to spoil anything but some hints are dropped.*

Let’s honestly start with the bad. First of all episode 14 felt very rushed to me. I really wish they would have dedicated an episode to each girl for the final confession and break. I especially felt insulted the way Kureneko’s is played out. I felt for one the three primary love interest she deserved better at least in animation time. I didn’t mind how Ayase and Kanako’s short bits as they did not receive a lot of focus during the show (well Ayase did in Season 2), however they were not viewed as primary in comparison to Kureneko, Kirino, and Manami.

Secondly the Anime does adapt the manga. This is not a bad thing unless you did not care for the ending. I am on the fence for the whole ending personally. The PSP Game does try to give you an alternate route in terms of dealing with Kirino and Kyosuke’s relationship, however I felt it was more of a “run of the mill cop out” rather than dealing with the concept of a brother and sister love story.

Finally, I really do love ClariS for the opening song, however I really love the first season’s opening. I really wish they would have ended with it.

The Good. Overall I am still a huge fan of this series as offing as it may be for others. It is a love story which many did not know the ending to until now. I felt the final three episodes did a lot of justice for the show and the final half of 16 played out great as you finally “see whats in the box” that you did not see in Season 1.

I was also thrilled to see an anime actually address each girls feelings. I am a bit tired of “all the girls or guys love me” but you get no real ending or choice. Kyosuke mans up and addresses each girl regarding their feelings. I really felt that it was a good punch to a show that was building that harem mentality, a harem ending that would never come to pass if you watched Season 2’s episode 11. I will also admit they got me good for some of the girls. I really felt for a couple of them in the end and in some ways all of them.

Final Thoughts. This show will go down as a “10” for me. There are very few show I have given this rating to. This is personal favorite I have seen many times over and even watched the last three episodes twice already. I remain torn on the ending, an ending that could have cost the show its “10”. I am happy they did not take an ecchi route personally. I think the final moments before their promise was SUPER CUTE! I would honestly recommend this show to most people. If you do not like the ending of the anime please read the epilogue and I warn you the PSP game may run as a cop out if you go that route.

Side Thoughts: I know the topic of this show is taboo. This is a review not a social commentary on society and thoughts on relationships. I do want to do an piece regarding social stigma on sexuality one day, especially with an otaku mindset.
