Whats nolaanime.com about?
“nolaanime” was created to provide a blog space for anime fans in the New Orleans area. Our goal is to provide up to date reviews on whats coming out in Japan while contributing to the growing anime fan base here.
How do you rate the Anime?
By The Numbers…
1-3 – Didn’t finish it for pure dislike.
4 – Maybe finished to finish, but not my cup of tea.
5 – Average, I watched it. It was good once.
6 – Average, enjoyed it a bit more. You have to like the genre.
7 – Better then Average / Very Good. I would recommend at least once.
8 – As good as it gets, probably something you should see as a fan. (Short of personal preference.)
9 – I really loved these anime, met my personal taste perfectly.
10 – Just holds a special place in my heart, maybe not yours. (All Time Favorites).
Why bother?
We feel that a lot of the anime many fans in NOLA are the “mainstreamers” who watch what they can on TV or online streaming. After attending the local anime conferences, we realize many people do not seem to discuss or keep up on the new anime as it comes out. Not that we object to loving Gundam or Soul Eater, but there are twenty plus new anime that come out every season and we want to help you sort out what might catch your interest. There is more to anime out there then One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, and Dragonball.
No manga? No US stuff?
As is, I have a hard time working and keep up with life to fit all the new anime that comes out. In addition I feel I can supply a “not based on the book” view at shows. We would love to find people to provide reviews for manga as well as a cosplay section. AS for US stuff, NOLA already also has a decent comic following here (EX: nolanerdpodcast), however we only have one main store (NolAnime) and a few groups (Louisiana Cosplayers & Louisana Anime and Manga Society) in the city.
You guys are missing stuff! Why isn’t doesn’t every anime have a final review?
It’s true. First of all we often skip a lot o “kid target” anime or extremely large series. Some anime just keep going and we don’t post up on their status. Also we tend to skip the “Card Game” type anime. Examples of what currently don’t get reviews:
Pokemon / One Piece / Yu-Gi-Oh! / Pretty Rhythm / Precure!
Other ones we just don’t care for the anime as a whole and none of my reviewers wanted to take. Examples form Spring 2014 would be:
Ping Pong The Animation / Rowdy Sumo Wrestler
We also do lapse on some Final Reviews. In short our primary updates happen during the changing of the seasons and as a result we get overloaded. Sometimes my writers pick one up and never finish, other times we are catching up on skipped/miss anime and just never come back. I do want to go back and adjust this one day.
Lastly there are anime we did not like in the end and never finished. You will see a “Dropped” status instead of a Final Review score. You can contact us if you want as we break down anime between people. Generally those that got dropped were dropped due to a writer not being available or loss of interest from the writer.
Your site sucks!
Yes we know, we are not web designers, programmers, or artists. We do what we can from what we can learn. We’ll try our best to improve as we go along.
When did your start nolaanime?
Recently! I’ve had the idea to do reviews for a while, however never purchased the domain or really set my sight on it. Also I had to make some purchases to produce the material you see here as well as make some much needed upgrades.
Can I help?
We are looking for a few avid anime fans to help us out. Currently it’s going to primarily be Blueice, Rini, HappyPiccolo, Storm, and I (Dash). We have a few other friends interested in joining or helping us out, but you all start somewhere. Contact me at (dash@nolaanime.com) if you have ideas or are interested.
Who are you?
A few good friends, who watch a lot of anime and play games. We realized after attending multiple conferences there is no local reference site for anime in New Orleans. We hope to make new friends and one day create a new place for anime fans to keep up to date.
